4/22/2021 0 Comments TABLE OF CONTENTS PROCESSBRIEF INTRO: The process of my table of contents was fairly easy and wasn't that difficult to produce. In my TOC, I added a photo that was from the same photoshoot as the photos I used for my magazine cover and double page spread. I did this in order to create a well-balanced harmony between the color scheme and pigments for the overall presentation of the magazine. Therefore, the main colors for my magazine are tones of pink and brown and standard colors such as black and white. TOC IDEAS Step 1: Here, I choose a layout from my first TOC ideas that I thought gave an appealing and modern look to my overall magazine.
SECOND DRAFT Step 2: I changed the left column into another photo.
THIRD DRAFT Step 3: Here, I altered the overall colors in order to create a more defined harmonization between the inserted photo and page numbers.
FINAL DRAFT Step 4: In this final draft, I cleaned up some final grammatical errors and fixed some titles.

This included making sure the main picture is good quality to things like making sure the color choices were appealing to the eye. She also taught us to incorporate our own creative taste, while still instilling the required methods for an effective magazine. For instance, like makings sure that the title and headings are big and bold enough so it is easy for the consumer to read. 4/20/2021 0 Comments CRITICAL REFLECTION: QUESTION 6 There are many issues that arise when national and local audiences are being targeted by international or global institutions. The media institutions are affecting how media is derived and seems to conform to the normality of today’s culture. This has to do with conglomerate and independent media because the larger companies from the national media, seem to follow a uniform mentality and impose that to its audiences. While the independent or local media, can include more diverse content. In the U.S. there are now only 6 major media companies.
The conglomerate or “big guy” in media are the major companies that own local news channels, main streaming platforms, movies, and further publications. An example of a conglomerate company is the Walt Disney Company because we run all of Disney’s content including movies, radio stations, and music. They provide media nationally, locally, and internationally because their content reaches to a global audience due to their dominance. The independent or “little guy” in media are platforms of media that are free from the influence of corporate media. They include television, internet sources, and radio and it has community access. They produce media locally because it is viewed in a community rather than on a global scale where only the conglomerate media has access too. They each produce their product in a variety of ways. For instance, the conglomerate corporations produce media through film because they own many smaller companies that produce movies. These films promote the cultural attributes that these major companies are in favor of. The “big guys” promote and deliver their product to their audience by reinforcing the latest trends and values in their content in effort to attract a wider audience. The independent media can produce their product through music because many newly artists make music through different platforms that are not controlled by the mainstream media. They reach their smaller audience by promoting their diverse viewpoints that appeal to the smaller audiences that want to express their opinions more freely. In terms of production and distribution, media has its advantages and disadvantages. The conglomerate media’s advantages are that they can reach a wider audience of different ages, ethnic groups, and countries. This is because they promote content that can be distributed on a global scale. Some disadvantages include that they promote a very singular ideology and conform to cultural constructs. Independent media’s advantages are that they possess more creative freedoms, diversity in content, and fewer commercials. They have more freedom to express their personal opinions because they are not limited to a corporation's protocol and generic rules. However, some disadvantages are that these big corporations are dominant and can hinder these smaller companies from being successful. To summarize, media institutions can vary and reach from a smaller or larger audience. Conglomerate media and independent media are different because the conglomerate institutions are a part of the larger companies that are in control of mainstream media productions, while independent media reaches mainly specific areas or communities because it is not a part of the larger corporations. Both have their advantages and disadvantages, and all contribute to how media is produced and distributed today. 4/20/2021 0 Comments CRITICAL REFLECTION: QUESTION 5 My own experiences of media consumption can illustrate wider patterns and trends in audience behavior because, as candidates, we have adopted the different media habits and culture that we are promoting and, therefore, influences the audience. For instance, if we use our media experiences to help teach others how to operate when using media platforms, then it can make them adapt to more diverse patterns and trends when dealing with media. An experience that can be effective to share could be our magazine. This is because the magazine was constructed through a variety of accumulated skills that were taught in order to produce a successful magazine for the audience. This magazine would be an example of print because it involves magazine and the ways in which it must be altered or updated to fit the consumption patterns for contemporary times. Therefore, by sharing these experiences and skills, the audience can produce a detailed and interesting form of content.
4/20/2021 0 Comments critical reflection: question 4 In my magazine cover, I have implemented a large amount of technology resources in order to produce my cover. This is because my double page spread is made virtually and not becoming a physical magazine. To create me cover, I have used resources like Canva and InDesign in order to develop the main layout of my cover. These applications have served as a guide into producing a magazine of better quality. The hardware that has helped has been the computer monitor in order to navigate through websites. Whereas the software includes the operating system and codes of the computer in which has helped to view the programs and applications necessary for the magazine cover. In addition, the fast online WIFI at my house has made a major impact in my work ethic and allows me to work diligently on my magazine cover with the sites and programs loading instantly. I also integrated technologies by looking through ideas and examples of how a magazine cover should appear on Google and Youtube. These incorporated resources have helped me to maintain a well-rounded magazine cover and evolve my skills of producing a product.
4/20/2021 0 Comments critical reflection: question 3 My production skills have developed greatly throughout this year because I have accumulated many new information and data regarding how to produce film in the proper way. For instance, the new knowledge that I gained from this course really helped to concretize the basic skills that are required in order to create a high-end production. The use of different applications allowed me to have more practice and develop more experience on the skills needed for improvement in filmmaking. For instance, I improved on the different conventions and language that should be used when preparing a media element. The applications that we used were Canva and InDesign and these resources helped to shape my understanding on production and it established fundamental skills. These skills include, how to create an appropriate magazine cover, table of contents, and how to entice the audience into viewing your product. With these skills, I can know appropriately create my magazine and have a product with advanced techniques of proper production.
4/20/2021 0 Comments Critical reflection: question 2 My product engages with audiences because it can relate to many individuals and people of different age groups around the world. For instance, the topic of my magazine is about Christianity. This broad topic branches out to many denominations of Christianity that can appeal to people in other countries that follow that belief system. Christianity branches out to Catholic, Protestant, and Eastern Orthodox. Therefore, if someone from a Christian background reads “God” on my magazine cover, then there is a high chance that they would consider reading it. The usage of words like “God” or “finding peace” can catch many of the readers’ attention and is used to persuade or entice the audience. Therefore, my magazine engages with audience because they can connect and are in accordance with the beliefs and values that are being presented. Also, the audience can consist of many different age groups because parents teach their children about their religion and these values get passed down to generations and generations. Therefore, there are children, teenagers, young adults, adults, and even elders that can be interested in reading the ideas represented in my product due to the wide variety of “believers”.
In terms of my product being distributed as real media text, my magazine would promote the ideology of the core values of Christianity, and I would elaborate on that belief system. I would explain about how I believe in Jesus and the reasons that I have in order to support my claims. The steps and ways to find Jesus in an individual’s own life would also be described. My explanations will consist of my representations of the world and an attempt to define or construct reality. The perspective of life that I live by might differ from others, but I present the facts behind my ideology and share my beliefs in order to give my own representation of life. My text represents the basic facts on why God exists and how he has given us a moral conscience in order to decipher what is right and wrong. This God-given moral compass proves that sin does exist and that we must seek righteousness. My magazine involves some incite relating to how God is our divine hope in order to help us find true succession in life. 4/20/2021 0 Comments CRITICAL REFLECTION: QUESTION 1 My product is a magazine in which I give incite about religious beliefs and ideas. I believe that my magazine challenges conventions because the ideology that is reflected in the magazine can be rather opposing to other individuals. For instance, I describe the key beliefs regarding Christianity and ways that a person can find peace in Jesus. Many people will not be in accordance with my ideas due to my religious background that might interfere or clash with a group of individuals. Therefore, I am challenging conventions by demonstrating another perspective on a belief and explaining my way of thinking when it comes to my religious standpoint. The practices and rules that I go by relate to particular styles in media that might not be acceptable to all audiences. My product also goes against some people’s political views and standpoints that might not be agreeable to everyone. My media codes are set in place in order to connect generic and individual media styles.
My magazine represents social groups or issues because I converse about topics regarding religion. The religion that I discuss in my magazine is about Christianity which is followed by multitudes of people due to it being the fastest growing religion in the world. Therefore, the social group that is represented by my magazine are Christians because I describe the general beliefs and values that Christians live and abide by. For instance, I discuss the topics on how to conquer your fears in Jesus. This automatically connects with my audience because they are a part of the religious group that is being represented. My product also represents social issues because I share my perspective as a Christian in order to inform to the public that Jesus is the answer to the many problems that people face in this world and that He is the answer to finding true security and peace in yourself. Therefore, the information in the magazine would be distributed well because it can serve as an answer to many people that are seeking hope. |
